Fannie B. Chestnut
Fannie was born in Greenville, North Carolina, one of seven children and the last surviving child of the late Jeffrey and Nina Baker. She died on Saturday, March 15, 2014 in the care of Hospice of Wake County. A World War II bride, she is survived by husband, Leonidas H. Chestnut, of the home; her son, McNeil Chestnut and daughter-in-law, Sandra Chestnut, of Raleigh; one special grandson, Austin M. Chestnut, of Raleigh; and her greatest joy in recent years, two greatgrandsons, Jackson McNeil Chestnut and Logan Henry Chestnut, both of Raleigh. She is also survived by grandnieces, Terri Harrison, Alyssa Gates and Jessica Hassleman; and grandnephew, David Cox.
For many years, she sang in the choir of Park Baptist Church, and for the last years, she attended the Roanoke Rapids Church of God, especially the Sunday evening gospel sings.
Her family, especially her son, McNeil Chestnut, would like to thank Hospice of Wake County for making her final days on earth peaceful. Their compassionate and understanding care can hardly be expressed in words. It was truly a blessing.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Michael Mooneyham officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
Arrangements are being handled by Askew Funeral and Cremation Services, where the family will receive friends Wednesday, March 19, 2014, from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
